Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic is a primary health care profession in Ontario. Chiropractic doctors use non-invasive, hands-on techniques to diagnose, treat and prevent disorders related to the spine, nervous system and joints (musculoskeletal system).
After taking a thorough history, performing a physical examination, and determining the diagnosis, a chiropractor will develop a comprehensive treatment plan based on the specific needs of the patient. A typical treatment plan may include spinal manipulative therapy (SMT), mobilizations, soft tissue therapy, therapeutic exercises and other non-invasive treatments. Nutritional, dietary or lifestyle counselling may also be implemented to educate patients and improve their quality of life.
Chiropractic care may also be used to provide symptomatic relief for patients with chronic conditions.
Contemporary medical acupuncture is a therapeutic method of care where fine needles are inserted into precise anatomical points of the body. Typically, needles can be inserted into muscles in order to relieve muscle tension. These points are determined based on the individual needs of the patient and their conditions.
Medical acupuncture can also be used to relieve pain, improve blood flow, reduce inflammation, improve function and mobility of the affected areas of the body. It is often used in the treatment of many conditions both acute and chronic, including: joint pain, muscle tension, back pain, headaches, scar tissue and others. Acupuncture has many benefits independently, and complements chiropractic treatments nicely.
During medical acupuncture the needles can be stimulated manually or with electricity for therapeutic purposes. Electro-acupuncture can be used to help dysfunctional areas of the body that may be causing pain or injury.
Dr. Tkachuk received her Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Certification from McMaster University.
